The MEP was created in 1996 by the association “Paris Audiovisuel - Maison Européenne de la Photographie”. This association was founded in 1978 by Jacques Chirac, then mayor of Paris, on the initiative of Henry Chapier, a French journalist, film critic, TV show host and feature film director.
