Synagogue Tephilat Israel Frank-Forter

This oratory is located at 24 rue du Bourg Tibourg 75004 Paris.

Established in 1920, this synagogue has its origins in the non-consistory, Hasidic Orthodox Jewish tradition. It was founded as a place of worship for Jews from Eastern Europe who had emigrated to Paris.
In its early days, the synagogue was led by Rabbi Isidore Frankforter, a committed man of faith. Sadly, during the dark days of the Second World War, Rabbi Frankforter was deported and did not survive.

As a tribute to the memory of this defender of the faith, the synagogue was renamed “Synagogue Tephilat Israël Frankforter”. The name change reflects the deep significance Rabbi Frankforter had for the community. It also symbolizes the perseverance and determination of the Paris Jewish community to maintain its faith and traditions despite the trials of history.

One of the synagogue's most notable evolutions is the change of rite. Whereas its origins were Hasidic and Ashkenazi, it has now become Sephardic.

Today, the Bourg-Tibourg synagogue is a symbol of the perseverance of the Jewish faith through the turbulent history of Paris. It continues to serve the city's Sephardic Jewish community, providing a place for prayer, reflection and spiritual communion.
