Saint Gilles Grand Veneur Garden- Pauline Roland
This square, also known as the garden, is located behind the Hôtel particulier du Grand Veneur, a 17th-century mansion built for Hennequin d'Ecquevilly, Captain General of the King's Vénerie.
He was responsible for organizing the king's court hunts.
The Hôtel du Grand Veneur actually comprises two hotels, those of Hesse and d'Ecquevilly, and overlooks Rue de Turenne.
The garden, laid out in 1988, has been a tribute since 2010 to Pauline Roland (1805-1852), a close friend of Georges Sand, a former schoolteacher who was introduced to Saint-Simonian ideas in her youth, and a feminist and socialist activist.
Located behind the Hôtel de Hesse and the Hôtel d'Ecquevilly, also known as the Hôtel du Grand Veneur, which overlook Rue de Turenne, the Square Saint Gilles Grand Veneur Pauline Roland is bordered on one side by carefully restored Rocaille-style buildings and on the other by this contemporary residence, which, without having any particular charm, is sufficiently neutral not to clash with the general architecture of the district and the square.
